OUR
STORY

OUR MISSION: To empower people to own their stories, and build confidence in public speaking as a life-changing skill.

January 2012

Where It All Began. Spellbound's Inception.

In 2006, Dawid co-founded Redington. By 2012, hiring decisions came down to a single speech, and too many talented interns were falling short not because of ability, but because nobody had ever taught them how to speak. Spellbound was created to level the playing field.

September 2014

Taking Spellbound To Universities.

By 2014, Spellbound was running workshops at Cambridge, Loughborough, UH and Liverpool. The pattern was clear: students had the grades but not the tools to interview well or carry themselves with confidence in the workplace. The Spellbound programme found its next home.

MONTH 2016

Spellbound Enters The Workplace.

In 2016, Spellbound ran its first large-scale session for several hundred HSBC employees. With the whole room learning together and nobody knowing who would be called up next, everyone committed. It proved that Spellbound could work at any scale.

MAy 2018

Finding Voices Behind Walls.

In May 2018, Spellbound entered Swaleside Prison for the first time. The sessions were transformational. The men had stories of hardship, difficult paths and hard lessons, and in the room they found space for honesty, reflection and something close to redemption.

April 2022

Spellbound Reaches the Isle of Man.

When the officer who arranged the Swaleside sessions relocated to the Isle of Man, he brought Spellbound with him. Sessions ran inside the prison and with members of the wider community, including people carrying profound personal grief. It confirmed what we had always believed: every voice has a story worth telling.

Present

Where We Are Now. Spellbound Today.

The Spellbound Foundation is now running cohorts across London and inside HMP ISIS, working with young men aged 19 to 25. For many, it is the first time anyone has told them their voice has power. We are working towards charitable status and expanding our reach to the people who need this most.

“Spellbound enhanced my communication skills, enabling me to articulate my thoughts clearly. This is crucial in professional environments and personal relationships. It also bolstered my confidence in expressing ideas and opinions, fostering assertiveness, and leadership qualities which I didn’t know were within me. Spellbound is an experience I treasure dearly!”
Dara Dare MARCH 2024 COHORT
“I have more confidence when presenting myself. Spellbound has directly increased my confidence in job interviews and assessment days. Now, I embrace all speaking opportunities that are presented to me.”

Courage is at the heart of the Spellbound programme. It takes bravery to step into a public speaking course, and even more to show up openly and honestly. We celebrate courage as the starting point for growth and transformation.

Vulnerability

Vulnerability is what turns communication into connection. When we allow ourselves to be heard, we invite others to do the same, building a stronger and more connected community.

Trust

Trust is the foundation of the Spellbound journey. Trust in the room to hold space for you, to support you, and to accept you when you share. Trust in the Spellbound programme, that by showing up and practising our principles, meaningful growth will follow.
